Better Late than Never....September 21, 2012

This post is a little late but I wanted to change things up just a little.

Initially this blog was a way to share our wine selections and our opinions of the wine.
Each wine night has transformed into more than just a new bottle of wine to add to our favorites list.

It has been an opportunity to bond with one another, share the day’s accomplishments, get acquainted with friends and boyfriends, share concerns and feelings, and really listen to one another.

Tonight’s wines were selected by their names.

“Wild Girl” and “Primal Roots” (finally found it) and I cannot remember the last bottles name…..Oh Well!

Bet you can’t guess what wine we started out with?

If you guessed “Wild Girl” You were right. Girl’s night became the theme.

Good thing it was Friday!

The girls had the opportunity to bond. Abby we really wished you were there, next time we need to Skype or video chat.

It was serious, yet it was relaxed. Thoughts and feelings were spoken, questions answered. Troubles discussed.  Hopefully the openness was healing to us all.

The evening was very memorable, the meal was delicious, the laughter contagious, and the feeling of family was as rich as the taste of wines.

                                      A Toast to “Family!”

                                        Thank You all

They say wine is good for your Health.
So here we go.....

Trying to educate myself on wine and wine tasting, I have found some very interesting trivia, fun  facts and entertaining information to share.

So why don't we exercise our Brains....

Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?
It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink.
To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously.
When a guest trusted his host, he would then just touch or clink the host's glass with his own.

Random Wine Facts

A “cork-tease” is someone who constantly talks about the wine he or she will open but never does.e

There is increasing scientific evidence that moderate, regular wine drinking can reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and gum disease.e

There is a right and wrong way to hold a wine glass. Wine glasses should always be held by the stem and not the bowl because the heat of the hand will raise the temperature of the wine.a

A wine that has a musty smell, similar to wet cardboard or mold, may mean that the bottle is “corked” (the bottle has a contaminated cork).e

Hippocrates, widely considered the father of medicine, includes wine in almost every one of his recorded remedies. He used it for cooling fevers, as a diuretic, as a general antiseptic, and to help convalescence.b

A standard glass of dry red or white wine contains around 110 calories. Sweeter wine has more calories.a

Now lets lift our glasses, and enjoy the health benefits of Wine.

Steinberger Wine Night……

You bring the wine, we bring the appetizer or meal or vice versa

About three weeks ago we decided to take one night a week and enjoy a new bottle of wine.

This night has become more than an excuse to have a glass of wine.  It has been a time to relax, let go and laugh, education one another and just be ourselves and have a good time.

Our guidelines?    Well ….Maybe just a few.

  • No more than 2 bottles of wine
  • Wine night winds down before 11 closer to 10.
  • Must be a Steinberger or related to one or invited by one.
  • We make up the rest of the guidelines as we go.

Wine is constant proof God loves us and loves to see us happy.
